  2. Beautiful and sad picture, and true words.
I wasn't beaten as a child or anything such as that, but I was bullied by my school mates and my parents really didn't understand me very well. I never seemed to be able to do anything right.
I hid the sadness I really felt behind humor a lot of the time.
I also became bulimic at twelve and started self-harming at fifteen.

  3. Oh, the sadness behind the mask, Rita, and you found the perfect picture to accompany your very timely haiku. An excellent response to the prompt.

  4. Damn...that is a sharp point well penned. It would be nice to put those masks on the shelf for good.

  6. So tragic and heartbreaking. Your poem conveys the pain of domestic violence.

  7. You should look at Sherry Blue Sky's poem. Both echo my own childhood.

You took a handful of words and told a life story. Little girls, easy prey, no matter how hard they pray... hard to say I loved this, but I certainly respect the message and your courage in the indictment. Brava. Amy Barlow Liberatore

  8. Heartbreaking. An extreme and intense theme. And a true and sorry one.
