haiga: "A Rusty Key"
a rusty key
among the ruins..
Independence Day
مفتاح صدِىء
بين الأنقاض..
يوم الاستقلال
March21, 2012
This haiga juxtaposes two images:
1. The "Independence Day", the day when Israel occupied Palestine on 1948 and declared it as the state of Israel. Thus, turning it into the HAPPIEST day for every Jew.
2. The Nakba(DISASTER) date as it is called by Palestinians.
It is the date when most of the Palestinians became refuggees. Thus, the happiest day for the Jews is the WORST for Palestinians.
The photo presents Palestinian ruins from Ako city.Ako was one of the biggest Palestinian cities, close to Nazareth and Haifa. The feeling of misery is passed over through the rusty key image: the key which Palestinian refugees have been keeping since 1948 hoping they will one day come back to their abandoned houses.
